These articles I found was very interesting. However, I really feel that we should embrace some technology due to how much cyber crime it is out there. Technology is a wonderful thing, however people have found room to steal idenity and also money from people on the internet. For instance, I had a co-worker that posted an ad on the internet to sell 2 rooms worth of furniture, she had plan to sell it for $1200. But the people that answered her ad was people who were trying to scam her.

The internet is a wonderful thing. You can do so much, you can look up research papers, you can look up your taxes online , you can buy things online. You can even pay bills online. Which is a good thing. I can remember when I would have to travel all the way downtown to pay my light bill. Now if you have a bank account, you can go online and pay your light, water, and gas online. You did not have that kind of technology back in the 80′s.  The new technology ages are great, however, what we found out is, if we can buy things online, we can also lose things online.

I agree that there are criminals that , sit at home and find ways to steal from people online, but we should not let that stop us. We should embrace the chance to do things conveniently .  Bad people use the internet to spy on people, to set up meetings with children, these people are called child predators.

Today ages are moving forward with the new technology, look at NASA, they have been using Technology since early 80′s. They were the only ones that were using it for the correct reasons. The new era is a great thing, and we should always accept change. Yes, change can be scary, but without the knowledge and experience the world would be in a rut. Some people may feel that technology has taken the day to day communication away, however, I feel like it gives us more opportunity to communicate with others. Yes, I realize that I can’t see the person that I am speaking to when I am texting them, however, I know they are getting my message immediately as oppose to waiting to find a pay phone to call them and let them know that I can’t make it. For instance, lets say I was meeting a friend at the mall, and something came up. I could go to the payphone and call that person and say I can’t make it, but what happens if they have left the house already and they are traveling on the bus, they arrive at the mall and sit there and wait and I never show up, if they had a cellphone, I could have called them and told them that I could not make it.

Technology is a good thing, however, I feel that we should use precaution when you are using today’s technology.

My Practical proposal is on Houston’s Metro Rail system. I chose this type because I feel like there are many ways to improve the system. I feel like there are many problems with the system. I feel like they should have designed the system a little better than they did. I feel like if they would have designed it like a Monorail system and designed it up in the air like Freeways then It would be a lot better than it is today. I believe the Metro rail system is a problem for the citizens of Houston and our visitors who are not familiar with Houston. I feel like they would suffer because we will continue to have accidents and people will continue to get killed by the Metro rail system.

I feel like the people who have power to solve the problem is the Mayor of Houston, and The city council members and also the Chairperson at Metro.I feel like the problem is not solved because at the current time Metro feel like they have a accurate system as it is. They feel like if people would just follow the rules and signs that they have posted will deter accidents in Houston, but my problem with it,  what happens if you are new to the city of Houston and you are not familiar with the Metro rail system, and you come to the stop and the light is green and you do not see the red lights on the street. Bam an accident has occurred.

I feel that if we could built the Metro rail either underground or up in the air like a Monorail system, that would improve the accident rate in Houston. I feel that by building the monorail system it would cut down the number of accidents and improve the flow of traffic in the areas where we currently have the monorail system. People would be less likely to get into a accident with the Metro rail bus if it is up in the air. Well the cost that is associated with the Metro rail reconstruction would be more taxes and a higher increase on Metro bus fare and the Monorail fare as well. I also feel like if the Metro organization would create this monorail system more people would want to ride it and it would be less confrontation when trying to build it in several of the neighborhoods. That way they would not be tearing up any streets to make them, they would just be adding columns and rails in the air, which would not interfer in tearing up streets which is currently one of the biggest problems that they currently face.

There were two stories that jumped right at me from the Houston Press articles. The first one was about These kids go to the Best Public High School in Houston and Run over by Metro.

The article about the school interest me is because I personally feel like HISD does not teach students anything but what’s on the test. When I was in elementary, middle school, they taught us how to read, and pronounce words properly. Now adays if its not on the test, they don’t teach it. Its so many kids out here now that are labeled as bad kids but really they are frustrated kids because they are lacking the education that they need to become intelligent.

The second article that jumped right out at me is an article about someone getting run over by Metro. Now that interests me because I feel that Metro could have done a better job with the metrorail.

If I was to chose one of the stories above I would say that it would have to be about the Metro . My research question would be : How to improve the Metro Rail system in Houston.  In order to find my answer, I would have to research different cities that have successful alternative transportation. The cities I would look at would be San Francisco and Washington because they either have the rail in the air or underground. I think I would actually make a phone call to the mayor of each city that has an alternative transportation and ask them questions like how do they feel about their current transporation, and how could they improve it. Now mind you , these phone calls would be on the weekends because my minutes are free then. I would also speak to Metro authorities to find out why they did not build underground or in the air. They may have a logical reason and I would keep an open mind about it. I would also look at the library for books on massive transportation, just to make sure i’m barking up the correct tree. If I could not get in touch with the mayor of the cities I would try to reach out to our councilman and see if they could assist me in finding out the information. I actually know of a few councilman and women personally so that would not be difficult at all.

Right now the local issues that I am trying to figure out if I want to do my paper on The testing skills currently in HISD, or something on the lines of How to catch the Heights Arsonist.

I think my topics are interesting to me because I feel like it we are sending out kids to school to get an education, then that is what they should get. These kids are not getting the type of education that I grew up on. I mean if you go to an grocery store and a teenager or a person say in their early 20′s is behind the counter and your total is 13.23 and you give them a 20.03 they will have a hard time trying to figure out what is your change.  I have experienced that many times. The store either had computer problems and they were doing everything manually and these people can’t count. And that is sad. The reason I care about this issue so much is because I have a 11 year old granddaughter who reads on a second grade level. I have tried to help her with her reading and have had many conferences with her teachers and all they can tell me is she does know how to read and she just want do the work. No one has tested her to see if she is Dislexia. Even after I have asked a number of times. Its like they don’t care. As long as she can pass the Stanford 10 and TAK test that is all that matters.

The topic that I have chosen for my essay is Grandparents raising Grandchildren. My research question is Why is so many Grandparents raising their Grandchildren.

I chose this topic because I am currently raising my grandkids and I wanted to find out if there were others out there that was raising theirs. I wanted to find out why so many of them are raising  their grandkids, why are the parents letting them and also what type of help are out there for grandparents who are raising their grandkids. I also wanted to find out what dilemma are they facing while trying to raise someone elses kids.

The ideas that I have is to find out what reason do people have for wanting to have someone else raise their kids. Why are so many grown kids dependant on their parent to help raise their kids and mainly why do we setting and raise our grandkids when we were not the ones that made them.

I also wanted to find out why issues do grandparents have when raising their grandkids. What are the legal issues and what does society say about grandparents raising their grandkids. I wanted to also see just how much research was out there on people raising grandkids and surprising there are more people raising them that you would expect. I also wanted to find exactly what race is raising the majority of their grandkids. I just thought it was the African American raise. But my studies show that I was wrong.

TEXTING AND DRIVING

DEATH  PENALTY  or YOUR FREEDOM

At this time, Government is trying to put into play, if you text and drive and cause a fatal accident you will get the death penalty. There are already issues and laws that if you text in a school zone you will get a ticket. Is it really worth texting while driving?

Can you image killing someone because you were texting your friend? Can you image the guilt that you will feel because you were not paying attention to the road? Wow!!

I found the show to be both entertaining and interesting. I had no idea this show was on tv. To me they bring up a lot of old issues. This show reminds me of a mix of High School Musical and Fame along with Sister Acts 2. All of the shows involve kids and they are musical like shows. It also reminds me of Bring it on. Mainly when the black girl told the football player to bring it.

I said that it reminded me of High School Musical because they were high school students and they all sang and danced. It reminded me of Fame because it took place in a school setting and the students did not want to join the nerdy group like they called it. However, it was founded that these students were very talented.

Of corse, if you really look at it reminds you of Sister Act 2 mainly because, the so called nun who was a lounge singer came aboard to help the nuns at the church to help them revive the church. They wanted to bring the people back to the neighborhood church. Well Whoopie G0ldberg who played the nun with musical talents saw that these kids we a bad group. They did not want to join the choir but what she found out was they were very talented. They ended up joining and realizing that this group was a great singing group. They ended up winning the musical. This is what the movie actually reminds me of.

Also on the funny part this movie reminds me of Cruel Intention. This movie was a great movie, it shows how 2 students go to allot just to prove a point that they can have whatever they want. In the show it showed the one of the character was falling in love with one of his victims. In the show Glee its the female teacher that is falling in love with the married teacher. Even though he wanted to concentrate on his family life the female teacher was still showing him that he could still have pleasure with someone else.

The show also reminded me back to Sister Act 2 because when they went to see the students that won the award they felt like they were screwed. That actually happen in Sister Act 2.

Now I said that this show reminds me of High School Musical because the two main characters was Gabriel and Troy. Now the football player and the other girl reminds me of both of them. They are attractive to each other . They also sound great together. They have also realized that if they would just stick together they could form a great group. Rachel and Finn where the main characters in Glee .

They also reminds me of Ridgemont High. That is another movie that had a musical in it. They are kind of like them. They fit the scenario, students wanting to make a difference. They sing, they get into trouble, they lie.

The show was actually a great show and I will defiantely be waiting it again. What it shows to me is how kids develop when they are in school. You go through peer pressure, being ashamed of what you do. Such as Finn who lied to his best friend because he was missing football practice. She he told him that his mother had prostate . Which anyone with common sense would know that prostate comes from men. Which his best friend did do some research and confronted him on it.

At the end of the show, it really reminded me of High School musical because the song that they sung. If i’m not mistaken it was also in High School Musical or a similar song.
